Insight Off The Beaten Track The Blue Stoops

@Insight Hospitality we are always on the lookout for exciting products, suppliers, Artisan companies and offering our support to local businesses.

Our journey this week takes us to recently opened The Blue Stoops in Kensington.

A former colleague of ours Paul McKenna M.D of Red Branch Hospitality has been integral in bringing the concept to life.

The pub is located on Kensington High Street, its striking blue exterior makes it easy to find, the interior takes you back in time, endless wooden panelling, high top bar stools, retro signs and posters and cool swing music playing in the background.

A beautiful black / orange checked flooring and old-fashioned Victorian bar serving Natural and Hand pumped ales.

Jamie Allsopp the proprietor is the custodian, serving Allsopps Ale, brewed since the 1730s by his 9 times great grandfather in Burton on Trent.

In addition, an extensive list of aged wines and madeiras are available.

Executive Chef Lorcan Spiteri, founder of Caravel is overseeing the kitchen, serving simple, seasonal English food.

Pressed Potatoes, Steamed Mussels, Veloute

Plump mussels gently steamed and served on a crispy layered potato, in an extremely flavoursome velouté, I would go back for this dish alone.

Truffled Celeriac Remoulade, St. Ewe Egg

Soft-boiled free-range St Ewe, Cornish eggs, rich, deep orange yolks, paired with a punchy, crisp celeriac remoulade, finished with a drizzle of truffle oil, simple, tasty and well executed.

Old Spot Pork Chop, Sage, Caper

A pork chop tenderly cooked with a perfectly rendered crust of fat, the accompanying sauce full of flavour, baby capers adding acidity to cut through the richness.

We had a side of crispy, fluffy fat cut chips, perfect to soak up the rest of the meat juices.

Hazelnut Tart, Crème Fraiche, Chocolate Sauce

Finally, a hazelnut tart, rich, nutty and unctuous, cut by the crème fraiche,  with the addition of chilled glass of madeira it was the perfect end to a great evening.

Delicious food, fresh high-quality ingredients and unique combinations, simply presented, in a relaxed atmosphere with great ales, charming, authentic and spacious, a gem of a traditional pub in West London.
