Insight Off The Beaten Track HOKO Cafe

At Insight Hospitality we are always on the lookout for exciting products, suppliers, Artisan companies and offering our support to local businesses.

Our journey this week takes us to HOKO half diner and half cab office with the lure of “ Silk-stocking milk tea” and authentic Hong Kong food.

Chinese tea back in the days.

During the British colonial period, the Hong Kong folks picked up British’s habit of having afternoon tea. However, tea, milk and sugar were considered to be upper class luxury.

The Hong Kongers had to create their own local brew by mixing a few types of black tea, evaporated milk and condensed milk to make it an affordable treat! The accidental formula then brings the rich, creamy flavour and sweetness in Lai Cha. Yummmmm.

Milk tea making has now become an artisanship and a signature drink in Hong Kong after decades of evolution.

Hong Kong Pork Chop Rice with Egg

A delicious mound of rice with a marvellous zingy ginger black bean sauce and crispy pork chop topped off with a fried egg and spring onions.

Simple, really tasting and a perfect brunch dish.

The second version tasted was the pork chop bun, served with tons of scallions and drenched with black pepper sauce, which added another dimension to that juicy pork chop.

HK French Toast

You know you have really experienced Asian street food with this HK classic, crispy, fluffy deep fried milk bread bathed in salty butter.

Simple presented but it was extremely delicious and true HK street food experience.

All the dishes being rich in carbs and proteins are a great reason to head out for a long walk into brick lane with a milk tea in hands, and knowing your stomach is well lined.
